{Stairway Designs: The Core of Interior Style

Stairs are more than just a way of moving between levels; they are a important part of a building’s atmosphere. There are various types of stairs, each offering different features and creative choices for multiple spaces. From space-saving Spiral stairs to grand Curved designs, there’s a stairway to fit any space or vision.

{Why U-Shaped Stairs Are a Popular Option

A U-shaped staircase includes two flights that run parallel, connected by a landing that makes a half-turn. This design is often used in bigger homes or public buildings where height space is plentiful. The U-shape is practical, offering a impressive aesthetic without taking up too much room. The central landing is both useful and aesthetic, offering opportunities for creative design. This option is linked to luxury and is a common choice in high-end or rustic homes.

{Curved Stairway Designs: A Emblem of Elegance

A Curved stairway design features a smooth, curving design that adds a element of sophistication to any space. Unlike Spiral designs, Curved stairs have a gentler turn, providing a more open climb. Curved stairs are a key feature in spacious homes, traditional properties, or luxury hotels, where they stand out as a focal point. Building Curved staircases is a detailed process that usually results in a higher cost. However, the finished stairway design is a stunning architectural detail that enhances the look of any room.

{Floating Staircases: Perfect for Modern Spaces

Floating stairway designs are known by their simple design, which makes the treads appear to hover in mid-air. The suspended appearance is achieved by attaching the treads to a concealed structure, making them appear suspended. These stairs are common in modern homes for their ability to make spaces feel more open and bright. The simple design ensures that other decorations, like lighting, can take centre stage. While stunning, Floating stairway designs require expert engineering to ensure safety.

{The Practicality of Spiral Staircases

A Spiral stair consists of treads that wind around a supporting column in a circular fashion. This style is ideal for compact spaces, such as outdoor areas, where a standard stair might not fit. Spiral stairs are available in materials like glass, providing endless creative flexibility. While they are efficient, Spiral staircases can be difficult for those with physical challenges or heavy loads. However, their unique design makes them a popular option for adding creative design to interiors.

{The Sophistication of Bifurcated Stairway Designs

This option of stair is defined by its balanced design, typically used in mansions. Bifurcated stairs are known for their central flight that divides into two at a break, typically bending in contrasting angles. This option is recognised for its striking and opulent presence, often chosen for grand entrances. The structure provides a harmonious and symmetrical aesthetic, often decorated with decorative banisters or lighting. While they require significant space and investment, Bifurcated staircases are a classic sign of refinement.

{Staircases: A Testament of Architectural Craftsmanship

As both a utilitarian and aesthetic element, stairs highlight the innovation of architectural design. From efficient Spiral designs to grand Bifurcated styles, staircases offer limitless possibilities to transform any space. No matter the trends, staircases will remain a key element in the functionality of any space.

Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'

Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.

Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.

The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
